Catching Fire Surpasses The Hunger Games’ Global Box Office Take with $730 Million

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has earned nearly $730 million worldwide in the few weeks since it has been released, putting it past the first film in the franchise, which made a respectable $691 million.  Catching Fire came in fourth at this weekend’s box office, earning an additional $13 million domestically.

This weekends’s top 5 are:

  1. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
  2. Frozen
  3. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas
  4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
  5. Thor: The Dark World

It’s also worth mentioning that Jennifer Lawrence’s other film in theaters, American Hustle, (which she has earned a Golden Globe Nomination) came in 15th place earning $690, 000.  While that number on it’s own doesn’t sound exceptionally noteworthy, it does once you realize it is in limited release and is showing at six, yes just SIX, locations!  Very impressive indeed!
