Bryan Singer Confirmed to Direct Next X-MEN Movie

It’s official.  20th Century Fox has signed Bryan Singer to direct X-Men: Apocalypse, according to Deadline.

I’m honestly happy about this.  I enjoyed the Singer-directed X-Men films much (much) more than the other-directed films, which I wish had never been done by someone else.  And although I enjoyed Bryan Singer’s foray into the DC universe, his version of Superman wasn’t much appreciated in the long run.  So, for him to come back and make X-Men: Days of Future Past, and make it as awesome as he did, proves that he still knows how to thrill the fans, especially in the Marvel universe.

Anyway, there are others involved in the making of X-Men: Apocalypse, and so the movie will be written by Simon Kinberg, who also scripted DoFP.  Along with Sing and Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker return as producers.  And filming will begin early 2015, with a release date of May 27, 2016.bryan-singer-x-men-dofp

Apocalypse takes place a decade after Days of Future Past and is a seamless next step in the story. The altering of time has unleashed a new and uniquely powerful enemy. Charles James McAvoy, Erik/Magneto Michael Fassbender, Raven/Mystique Jennifer Lawrence, Wolverine Hugh Jackman and Hank/Beast Nicholas Hoult are joined by young Cyclops, Storm, Jean and others as the X-Men must fight their most formidable foe yet: an ancient unrelenting force determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history.

There are sure to be new (or other returning) mutants introduced in this next one, and we’ll keep you updated once more official news comes out.
