This is to be expected. Just like Wolverine movies, whose films have been relegated to PG-13 ratings for the sake of drawing in more ticket sales, despite the furor of devoted comic fans wanting more of the graphic nature of his true slicing abilities, the Deadpool movie seems more and more likely to be reigned into that same grade, just as I had speculated not too long ago. This should be no surprise at all, as it seems that’s the reason why a Deadpool movie was approved in the first place, as stated in a Schmoes Know podcast:
“I heard from the director that they finally figured out the script, and it was right before this was announced, that they figured out, and you guys are all gonna hate this, they figured out how to make it PG-13. And therefore ‘not lose its soul,’ and that’ a quote, of the script so that they can make it.”
This is not saying that it won’t be a fun movie to watch despite the toned down rating, however, I understand the desire of the purists as well. It would be kinda fun to go into the darker, more graphic, side of comics. What true-blooded fun doesn’t want to see a bit of slicing and dicing by the this quite loveable yet demented merc with a mouth? Especially if that character is played by the Ryan Reynolds!
